You Didn’t Expect This at Faneuil Hall

Often times, people spend the day after Thanksgiving buying things they don’t need.

Such a shame.

Because they could be buying indigo-dyed cardigans or an antique bicycle instead.

Whoops. Sort of proved our own point there.

Still. Be thankful for TownPool, a pop-up menagerie of soft cotton shirts, needlepoint flasks and other things you won’t mind giving/receiving, soft-open now and officially opening Friday at Faneuil Hall. (Check out this slideshow.)

These guys ran a pop-up under the same name in Nantucket this summer. Now they’ve got their hands on Faneuil Hall’s old greenhouse, and they’ll be sticking around until early January.

It’s all glass in there. Walls, ceilings... everything. Greenhouse and all. But the vibe inside is more family-home-on-the-cape, thanks to antique trappings like leather sofas, a silver-plated tea service and a big yellow bicycle built for two. Yes, it’s for sale (along with 99% of the other decor stuff).

Also for sale: goods from the likes of Smathers & Branson (flasks embroidered with race cars), Collared Greens (silk repp ties) and never-before-stocked-in-Boston-ness like beach-inspired shirts from Faherty Brand and Wellington boots by way of England from Gumleaf.

The British are... no, we’re not doing that.
