Boot Camp

These Are Winter Boots. Wear Them Wisely.

Well, all this accumulated snow should be gone soon. We made a funny joke. Moving on: you’ll be wearing boots for a while. A while-while. So we went ahead and found Boston’s best. They’re down there.

The Uplander Boot
FOR THE OUT-OF-DOORSMAN

The Uplander Boot

What: Water-resistant leather foot fortresses handmade in Wisconsin. Here’s the part where we don’t make a cheese joke.
Why: To give the impression that you’re coming back from an ice-fishing trip even when you’re just walking to the store for more marshmallows.

Blundstone Original Boot 500
FOR THE OFFICE

Blundstone Original Boot 500

What: An Aussie creation that looks like a Chelsea boot but can withstand acid, oil and temperatures of up to 284 degrees.
Why: 1) You need something you can wear into the morning meeting. 2) You need to avoid oil, acid and temperatures of up to 284 degrees. Fingers crossed for #1.

1611 First Avenue Boots
FOR THE FORMAL OCCASION

1611 First Avenue Boots

What: A dress boot inspired by vintage spats and made from high-grain Italian leathers. No word on the Italian-ness of the side zipper.
Why: Because suiting up is still a thing that happens when there’s three feet of snow outside.

Warren Duckboot Shearling
FOR THE SIDEWALK WARRIOR

Warren Duckboot Shearling

What: A heavy-duty specimen with waterproof rubberized bottoms on the outside and thick sheep shearling on the inside. Yes, those are the parts that count.
Why: It’s the closest thing to sticking your feet inside a petting zoo. Which isn’t a very plausible real-life scenario.

Red Wing Plain Toe Boots
FOR THE PUDDLE JUMPER

Red Wing Plain Toe Boots

What: The classic boot from legendary ruggedness-maker Red Wing, only in navy blue suede instead of not-navy-blue not-suede.
Why: There’s just something satisfying about telling winter off in attractive ways. These are two of those ways.
