One Fine Day

Six Beers to Get You Through the Day

The World Cup has you drinking in the A.M. Summer has you drinking in the afternoon. And evening drinking, that's a year-round phenomenon. As befitting such an ambitious schedule, we took the liberty of seeking out six brews at bars you know and love, designed to get you through an entire summer day, from morning until... the next morning.

Coffee and Oatmeal Beer at Birreria Paradiso
MORNING COFFEE

Coffee and Oatmeal Beer at Birreria Paradiso

The stout (officially named Mikkeller Beer Geek Brunch) is nothing short of breakfast in a glass: brewed with both oatmeal and one of the world's rarest coffees—a Vietnamese java that gets picked, consumed and, er, processed by civet cats. No milk or sugar required.

The Beermosa at Eatonville
BRUNCH

The Beermosa at Eatonville

Ah, the mimosa, that fixture of brunch perfection—almost like it couldn't be improved. Until someone went and added beer to it. The 14th Street soul food room starts with a frozen mason jar of Haywire Hefeweizen, and tops it off with some fresh OJ. And no flying corks.

Available weekends, 11am-2:30pm, at Eatonville, 2121 14th St NW, 202-332-9672

The Lemon Lager at Masa 14
LATE-AFTERNOON REFRESHER

The Lemon Lager at Masa 14

For the adult version of lemonade, you need the adult version of a roadside lemonade stand, otherwise known as Masa 14's bar. There, you'll enjoy a mad mix of beer, lemon-basil simple syrup and St. Germain elderflower liqueur. They really ought to hawk this stuff on the sidewalk.

Available at Masa 14, 1825 14th St NW, 202-328-1414

Rogue John John Dead Guy at Brickskeller
COCKTAIL HOUR

Rogue John John Dead Guy at Brickskeller

This is usually the time of day when you like to listen to the whiskey clink around in your glass. Far be it from us to stop you. Rogue starts with a pale ale, then ages it in barrels that once held Rogue's Dead Guy Whiskey. Feel free to drop a cocktail cherry in your beer.

Kasteel Rouge at Brasserie Beck
AFTER DINNER

Kasteel Rouge at Brasserie Beck

You don't always do dessert. But when it comes to a boozy cherry pie in a glass, you can be convinced. This murky brew is married up with sour cherries while it ages, giving it a summery, fruity punch. George Washington would love it. No lie.

Slaapmutske Triple Nightcap at ChurchKey
NIGHTCAP

Slaapmutske Triple Nightcap at ChurchKey

This super-strong Belgian ale literally means "Sleeping Cap" in Flemish—the brewer came up with the name when he gave his baby a finger dipped in the brew to calm him down and put him to bed. It works on adults too.
