How to Dress for Nantucket

We stand on the cusp of another Nantucket summer. Which means a lot of sailing, yachting, partying and bonfire-ing. It also means you’ll need clothes. Behold, our favorite pieces to bring with you to ACK.

THE JACKET

Bonfire-Worthy Outerwear from England

What: A Baracuta jacket from an English brand, Harrington, that’s been pumping out these lightweight, plaid-lined cotton classics for over 70 years.
Why You Want It: Elvis, Steve McQueen and Frank Sinatra were huge fans of this very coat.
When to Wear It: At the post-party bonfire, or any time you’re recreating key scenes from Bullitt.

THE SHORTS

Seersucker Shorts from a Classic Brand

What: Super-comfy, blue seersucker shorts.
Why You Want Them: They hail from the same family-run, Nantucket-based clan that trademarked and created the original Nantucket Reds.
When to Wear Them: Those mornings spent sailing your 40-footer on shimmering seas, or later that afternoon back at the beach club.

THE BELT

Needlepoint Belts from Vietnam

What: Handsome needlepoint belts from two guys from Maine.
Why You Want Them: Hand-stitched by artisan needle workers in Vietnam, they’re strong enough for any activity.
When to Wear Them: That Sunday brunch with her stodgy but wine-loving grandparents. Be sure to thank them for using their house.

THE SHIRT

Classic Button-Downs from California

What: Limited-run button-down shirts that Prince William would be comfortable wearing.
Why You Want Them: They work great with a Windsor-knotted tie, or two buttons open during midday imbibing.
When to Wear Them: Pretty much whenever you want. They work dressy as well as super-casual. We’re guessing windsurfing is out, though.

Why You Want Them: They’ve been providing the US Air Force and even NASA with similar shades for nearly 20 years.
When to Wear Them: Whenever the sun is out, or when your bloodshot eyes are best kept hidden.
