One could also argue that texting has fundamentally changed your means of procuring liquor.
We can see it both ways.
But that second one sounds promising. And it’s a real thing that exists now because of Drinkeasy, a new service that’s sending you spirit recommendations via text and then actual bottles via the mail. It goes like this.
Step 1: Text 646-681-4442 to sign up for the service, then input your payment info and mailing address. Oh, there’s currently a waiting list, but you can circumvent said list by texting “Daddy” to that very number. Convenient.
Step 2: Just keep on living your life. And once per week, these guys will send you a personalized text about a craft spirit, complete with photo, backstory and price tag.
Step 3: If you want a bottle for yourself, respond with “hell yes” and it’ll arrive at your doorstep in a few days. Seriously. That’s all you need to do.
So it doesn’t have the instant gratification factor of other booze delivery services that’ll hand-deliver a bottle of scotch within the hour. But in this case, their experts (drink writers, sommeliers, bartenders) do all the work. You receive interesting spirits that you probably won’t find at your local liquor store. And as you interact more with the service, they’ll learn your taste preferences and better tailor those recommendations to you.
And all because you responded “hell yes” to a text message. These are wild times we’re living in.
