The world received a precious gift yesterday when Prince's estate released the 1984 studio version of his Nothing Compares 2 U, set to grainy footage of Prince and the Revolution rehearsing the track. And...wow. Compared to O'Connor's earnest, spare ballad (a classic in its own right), it's got a much richer production and, at times, almost a gospel influence. Come for the music and stay for the dancing. Prince's moves will make you pissed and devastated that he's gone all over again, but watching is worth the anguish. If you can't watch the video right now, it looks like Prince was doing his damnedest to take the James Brown stage presence and intensify it to levels no one else can or ever will match. Enjoy the hell out of this...
