MasterClass, the most glamorous host of online courses on the interwebs, has added a whale to its roster of video educators, which already includes Aaron Sorkin, who teaches screenwriting, Dustin Hoffman, who teaches acting and Usher, who teaches the art of performance, which really only seems necessary if you're Usher. Yes, legendary, Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese has joined the faculty as professor emeritus of filmmaking, by which we mean, he's recorded some edifying videos deconstructing the craft of making and watching movies (Scorsese, in addition to being one of the most iconic filmmakers of all time, is a bona fide film historian). He'll also be available to answer "select student questions." So make sure you think of something good.
You can enroll now for early 2018, or gift the class to an aspiring young filmmaker, who impressed you by actually knowing what Taxi Driver is. Here's hoping Scorsese gives an entire lesson on how to film a boxing scene like in Raging Bull, or a crash course in directing famous actors through scenes during which their characters are high as a fucking kite on quaaludes.
