This morning, the first trailer dropped for David Wain and Michael Showalter’s Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later, the sequel to their 2001 cult movie and the eight-episode prequel that fittingly aired on Netflix fourteen years later. It premieres on August 4th on Netflix.
The new series takes place during a ten-year Camp Firewood reunion, which was first scheduled in the original movie, on the last day of camp. (More specifically, it was planned for 9:30am ten years later; McKinley has something at 11.)
Almost all of the original cast members, including Amy Poehler, Christopher Meloni, Molly Shannon and Paul Rudd, are returning, as well as a few members of the cast from the first Netflix series, like Chris Pine, Kristin Wiig and Jason Schwartzman.
If the trailer is any indication, there will be plenty of the same weird sex stuff, French kissing and Jefferson Airplane. Naturally, the camp is once again in jeopardy, Coop is still pining over Katie and Paul Rudd’s Andy, who now has long hair and a goatee, sneers a lot.
The first series was one of the few reboots that lived up to the original—in some ways, I thought it was even better. Here’s hoping this one’s more ridiculous than the last. And here’s Paul Rudd picking up dishes, because it’s a thing of comic genius.
