1. If you’re going to the Delaware beaches this summer, leave early.
2. Also, stay here: the new Bethany Beach Ocean Suites, the only hotel located on the boardwalk of the Delaware town, now taking reservations for an August 1 opening. (See the slideshow.)
Here are a few things you should know about these suites:
They’ve gotten a major upgrade.
This was the site of an uncomplicated, no-frills motel where you could walk from your room out onto the boardwalk and then the beach. You can still walk out to the beach. But after a top-to-bottom reconstruction, they’ve added some frills. Like 112 suites with kitchens and private balconies, and a theater room for your big presentation (yes, Caddyshack is a presentation).
Seafood towers await you downstairs.
At a place called 99 Sea Level. Sit at the boat-shaped bar and get to work on Alaskan crab and Chincoteague oysters, and warm-weather drinks like margaritas made with strawberries, basil and jalapeños.
There’s a spa situation.
Which includes hydrating facials and a 40-minute Beach Break massage.
The pool deck has a retractable roof.
No, they won’t close it for your wiffle ball game.
