A Freewheeling Ski School in New Zealand

You’re taking a long break this weekend.

Good. You deserve it.

Also: come August, you’ll be re-breaking in your skis—squarely across the face of Middle Earth.

Introducing the Southern Alps Ski Tour, a new ski and snowboard clinic on New Zealand’s South Island that videotapes you stunting from Wanaka to Queenstown, taking reservations now for August 24 and beyond.

Think of this trip as a learn-by-doing experience, or a roving freestyle training camp on skis. Your educational tools: five diverse ski locales spread over 10 days, and one Kiwi guide trailing you with a camcorder.

You’ll kick things off in Queenstown with a mild warm-up—resort skiing around Coronet Peak—before dipping into the wild woods of Ohau to expose its secret backcountry stashes for what they really are: a pristine setting for practicing the art of tree-evasion.

In the end, you’ll be offered a snowboard and—should you accept it—dropped from a helicopter onto 3,500-foot vertical glacier runs pocked with steep granite chutes and terminating at the frozen shores of Wanaka.

All they ask is that you keep it mature with the telestrator.
