One Cold Cocktail, Here To Crush the Heat

Our warmest summer memories involve watermelon, picked from a bowl with sticky fingers under a merciless sun. And over the years, we've learned that adding whiskey to a situation never, ever results in anything going wrong, ever.

Yardbird in Los Angeles has a natural grasp on both subjects and today is offering up its Watermelon Sling for your enjoyment. It's a refreshing blend of watermelon juice with Aperol, lemon, rosemary and white whiskey aka moonshine aka white dog aka Electric Jesus aka mountain dew that is sure to obliterate the sensation of being too hot.

It's precisely what you want to be drinking on a day like today. Which is why there were so kind top offer the secrets behind it.

That and the strict codes of Southern hospitality. Enjoy.

 WATERMELON SLING

1.5 oz White whiskey

.5 oz Aperol

.75 oz Fresh Lemon Juice

.75 oz Simple Syrup

1.5 oz Fresh Watermelon Juice

2" Sprig of Fresh Rosemary

Top with Club Soda

Roll the rosemary in hand to release its oils, then drop into mixing tin, add remaining ingredients, less the soda, and shake with ice. Strain into a Collins glass filled with ice and top with club soda.  Garnish with fresh rosemary and a paper-thin lemon wheel.
