You know that thing where friends come to visit and don't listen to you about the neighborhood they should stay in, so they end up in West Hollywood?

Save yourself the trouble and just point them here.

It's La Peer Hotel, a fetching coup of a Kimpton property with wood-fired Italian (and room service) from Casey Lane, now open off Melrose.

You need to see this 105-room, Gulla Jonsdottir-designed hotel in West Hollywood's Design District. Maybe even twice, to catch all of the jaw-dropping detail, from the poem boxes and mirrored molten tables to the leather bricks and the Retna murals. To say nothing of the courtesy Tesla.

You'll also want to see...

A suite: If someone already snatched the penthouse and its wall-to-wall patio, you'll make do with a suite with pre-batched cocktail service and a bath concierge. You're resilient like that.

The pool: It's a rectangular body of water for guests and their associates to splash each other in when not absorbing gratuitous amounts of sunlight.

Lobby Bar: Beautiful, at the least. With bee-abdomen-shaped lanterns and a popular local's artwork covering one flank. And passion fruit caipirinhas and Ipswich clam pizzas covering your table.

The Rooftop: A large events area with unreal city and Hills views. Anyone having a birthday?

Viale dei Romani: Casey Lane's restaurant could be the most striking piece of the puzzle. You may even skip the charming patio to have your black cod casarecce and giant wood-fired steak indoors.

You've never felt this torn about patios before.
