You Need to Check Out This Classy Little Cocktail Lounge Adjacent to Commis

CDP Will See You Now

You've been to Commis before.

Had the two-Michelin-Star experience.

Inadvertently thrown around phrases like, "Honestly, this is actually quite lovely."

You just kinda wish there'd been a bar.

Welcome to CDP, short for Chef de Partie and the new bar adjacent to Commis that serves both as a cocktail lounge on its own, and an area where you can grab a drink before your long and winding Commis experience. It's now open in Oakland as evidenced by this menu and these pictures.

You and a similarly snappily dressed date will enter CDP, placing your name on the waitlist and noting that the décor resembles the clean, white aesthetic of its sister restaurant with some more playful elements like purple banquettes and Jonathan Adler chandeliers. Chandeliers. So playful.

When your name is called, you'll sit and peruse their extensive selection of brandies and champagnes before ultimately deciding on a drink like the cognac-forward Commis 09, which is their take on the French 75. There are other drinks, too. Promise.

Follow it up with bar bites elevated to a Commis level, like a sandwich with speck, taleggio cheese, toasted caraway butter and orange blossom honey. Or one of the two Commis crossovers like levain or egg yolk with malt and smoked dates.

Or a three-hour dinner next door.
