The 4am bar.
It’s the best last resort of a night out. It’s home to the evening’s third “just one more.”
It’s... typically not a place you reminisce fondly about the next morning.
Unless that 4am bar is Otto Mezzo, a classy new imbibery from the Rockit guys that’s now open in River North and looks like this.
In which case, you’ll reminisce about sipping grappa under an Art Deco-inspired ceiling dotted with vintage light fixtures instead. About a candle-filled, gold fireplace and etched mirrors over turquoise banquettes in a room that’s part Old Hollywood and part Italian Riviera.
Yeah. That.
Anyway, in Italy, late nights are fueled by vermouth and salumi. Here, they’re fueled by Biscotti Sours and Ultimo Olives. The latter are filled with burrata, wrapped in Nduja and are things you want to eat.
And if you’re looking for that quintessential vermouth, it can be found in the on-draft cocktail inspired by Brandon Phillips’ nonna, who not-so-famously said, “Italian cocktails can only be Italian if they have vermouth in them.”
But sure, they also have that aforementioned salumi here. And they’re kind enough to lace it with truffles.
When in kinda-sorta-Rome.
