I’m going on a date.

They’d probably love some wings and beers in the Mission, but that’s date six material.

Movie? Definitely not a movie.

What about a nice circus or something. There’s got to be a circus in town.

We interrupt your not-really-happening, floundering train of thought to bring you tidings of Rum&Sugar. It’s your new date-night sweet spot in the Tenderloin, there’s rum there, and it’s open now. Have a look around.

This place was created by two lifelong friends from Moscow who loved going out to bars, but noticed that none of them were this particular bar. You can see how that would be a problem.

You’ll bring that date and admire the copper bar, the mural of Greek muses and the selfie frame. You’ll move swiftly and without hesitation past the selfie frame and turn your gaze toward this cocktail menu.

It’s filled with old movie references like the To Kill a Mockingbird with rum, Campari and pineapple, and the cognac-driven A Streetcar Named Desire. Because, right, they have a projector that’s constantly screening old classics.

Note the 3D-printed napkin holders made from a Casablanca quote and promise to return once they’ve finished their “Rum Bible” with pictures of their ever-expanding rum selection.

Should be a pretty easy promise to keep.
