A Bar-Within-a-Bar Above ABV That Showcases One Spirit at a Time

First Up, Rum. Glorious Rum.

We begin our tale with a bar.

No, not that bar. The private one. Upstairs, toward the back of the first bar.

This isn’t working.

Let’s jump right into how ABV has just taken pop-ups one step further and opened their own reservations-only bar-within-a-bar on their previously rarely used mezzanine. It’s called Over Proof, it’s open now, and here it is in pictures.

To get in, you’ll need to grab one of the 25 spots for their 7:30 seatings on Thursdays or Fridays. More if you’re bringing friends. Bring friends.

Then, shortly after you guys show up all giddy and thirsty, you’ll be led upstairs and through a door emblazoned with the quarterly rotating theme.

This one is “Flip Flop.” Yes, like the kind you wear when drinking rum. Because there will be lots of that in special cocktails like the Pink Flamingo and the Pineapple Bum, all paired with their tasting menu that includes the likes of Trini Chow Mein (the national dish of Trinidad) and Clam “Stuffies.”

And you’ll be doing all of this in a room decorated like a tiki lounge on a tropical beach, with rhum posters and “windows” overlooking the “ocean.” Get it while you can, because in three months, everything changes for their next spirit: whiskey.

It’s so easy to say goodbye.
