Grid Shock

The Grid, Now with More Pizza and 3D TVs

Change is everywhere. Leaves. Cubs managers. And now, bars.

Let’s make sure you’re ready for that last one. The Grid, that newish River North basement sports bar, has expanded upstairs, replacing Baume & Brix. Here’s the breakdown:

The Space
Then: The Grid had that mod fireplace and those late-night DJs. But you felt woefully confined to the basement.
Now: The downstairs will be open Thursdays through Sundays, and you’ll still find a DJ playing a Top 40 mix. But now your early partying will occur in big, comfy booths with your friends upstairs, with 3D TVs showing sports (in 2D for now) and movie nights to come.

The Food
Then: A hodgepodge of bar snacks.
Now: Former Gage chef Dirk Flanigan is offering assemble-your-own sliders, from marlin to Jamaican chicken. And the former elevator shaft—last used as a chef’s table—is a pizza bar, home to a 700-degree blast furnace heating up your spicy lobster pies.

The Drinks
Then: A few dozen beers, from Bud to local faves like Daisy Cutter, and cocktails like the Midway (gin, jalapeño, lime).
Now: Exactly the same.

If it ain’t broke...
