The Key Intel on Downtown’s Newest Hotel

“If you build it, they will come.”

—Ancient Iowan proverb

Caveat: this only actually works in real life if you build it with a rooftop pool, a daiquiri bar and sidewalk gambling stations.

Take a detour from the Strip for Downtown Grand, a new Fremont-adjacent hotel that’s got a few considerable aces up its sleeve, taking reservations now and opening October 28.

This used to be the Lady Luck Hotel & Casino. Remember that place...

Anyway, doesn’t really matter. What matters is what’s there now. And that’s two industrial-looking towers conjoined by an elevated walkway and concealing, well, a lot. For starters: 650 rooms and suites, a 30,000-square-foot casino, a sportsbook, a Jewish deli, a biergarten and one of those rooftop-pool situations. (They must’ve heard you’re a fan.)

So, lay low here for a random weekend. Or swing by for some blackjack and a frozen drink (that daiquiri bar in the lobby: imported from Hawaii). Or, you know what, don’t even go inside the place. Just stroll by the front of it and make some bets. They’re the only hotel in Vegas with sidewalk gaming windows.

Walk-off parlays. Now a thing.
