Well, Peru has gotten tired of waiting. And it’s come looking for you.
In the form of: Tanta, a new spot for fresh ceviche and strong pisco sours from only the greatest living chef in Peru, opening Monday in River North.
The man behind this place is Gastón Acurio. He’s the chef/co-owner of Astrid y Gastón in Lima, Peru. Which was recently ranked the 14th best restaurant in the world by S.Pellegrino. (Alinea was 15th. Just sayin’.)
But this is more relaxed than his Lima joint. It feels like something out of Dwell magazine. Sleek lines. Brazilian hardwood. Oh, and there’s a risqué mural. So we hope paintings of nearly topless South American women don’t bother you.
Your play: grab a ceviche partner and claim a couple of stools at the marble-topped bar. Spend the night throwing back hits of leche de tigre (ceviche in shot glass form) and splitting plates of beef empanadas and chicharrón sliders.
To drink: probably something pisco-y. They’ve got pisco sours, of course. But also: eight other pisco cocktails, including a pisco version of a Moscow Mule called a Lima Llama.
Should be a real kick.
