THE CLAIM
That the Mac Dog with Smoked Bacon at Lucky Dog Ptown is the ultimate hot dog and worth a special trip to Provincetown.
THE INVESTIGATION
Our famished investigator found the place just off the main drag, grabbed a seat and ordered the hot dog in question. When it arrived, a hint of fear crept up his spine, and here’s why.
The dog: one pound, all-beef kosher. The mac and cheese: made with sharp cheddar and pasta goodness, and blanketing the entire dog. The bacon: locally smoked, slightly candied but not too sweet, super thick and rather crispy. The bun: freshly baked at the Pepperidge Farm bakery in Rhode Island and driven in that morning. Total weight of the creation, which was sliced in half and served in a basket/bucket: nearly three pounds.
Our investigator threw caution to the wind and began devouring the beast. Any cheese or bacon that dropped from his grasp was caught in the basket/bucket for future consumption. Eventually, he finished the entire hot dog.
THE VERDICT
Add this thing to “the beautiful surroundings” and “Norman Mailer’s house” as reasons for hitting P-town this summer. Seriously, it’s insanely good.
