Welcome Sportique, a modern, two-room den of gear devoted to outfitting you for a life of hardcore leisure (weekends in the mountains, jaunts on your yacht…), open now on Sutter.
Think of Sportique as a small, high-design version of REI, that also has an eye towards the après side of things. So when you head into this little shop that’s sort of like an urban, industrial mountain chalet decked out with vintage skis, antique metal lamps and racks made of exposed wood beams, you’ll discover techie gadgets for cliff diving and skiing intermixed with Tom Ford and Carrera sunglasses as well as sweaters from Rogues Gallery.
In the front room, in a display over shards of glass, you’ll find expedition watches by Timex and Luminox that are serious enough to take on a backcountry trek up in Tahoe but still work when you’re at happy hour.
In the back room, if you’re planning on back-roading or equipping your earthquake kit (in other words, honing your survival skills beyond your stash of a few small bills), there’s an old, steel medical table covered in technical accessories like GPS units, flashlights and HD helmet cameras.
