Steak and Sushi in the Hamptons

UrbanDaddy - Prime 103

It's hot out.

Translation: It might be time to think about grabbing the seersucker and heading for the Hamptons.

And while you're there, you'll want to check out the area's first big opening of the season: Prime 103, which launches officially Thursday.

Prime 103 is the new name and identity of JL East, one of four East End restaurants owned by Ed "Call Me Jean-Luc" Kleefield. The place's American French cuisine has been retired in favor of two things you'll like much better: steak and sushi. (How serious is the switch? Three sushi chefs have been recruited from Japan, and the turf includes a Kobe hamburger and 27-day dry-aged sirloin.) The back room has been transformed (read: sexed up) from a dining area to a lounge, which opens onto a back patio with cozy cabanas perfect for your more private conversations. In the main room, the wall-to-wall bar and palm trees remain (because how can you improve on indoor trees and a huge bar?), but the space gets a re-freshening with custom-made ostrich leather banquettes (that's right, ostrich).

So if you make the trek to East Hampton, expect to see: Jean-Luc in one of his patented fluorescent shirts, possible sightings of JL East regulars like Howard Stern and Russell Simmons and, of course, the signature Prime 103 Platter, a one-pound lobster tail paired with a 22-ounce porterhouse.

Just try to keep it off the seersucker.
