The Easiest Way to Roast Coffee Beans at Home

Sandbox Smart Coffee Roaster Fits on Your Kitchen Counter and Is Controlled with an App

None

Whether you make coffee each morning by pressing a button or meticulously creating the perfect pour-over, you probably don't think too much about how the beans were roasted.

Because that's best left to the professionals and their commercial-grade equipment.

Except for right now, when it's best left to you and this little cube.

The Sandbox Smart R2 Coffee Roaster is an at-home contraption that lets you quickly and easily roast beans yourself. After a successful Kickstarter, it's available to order now.

You don't really need to know how it all works. But here's how it works: The device uses a quartz heating tube and detachable drum for even roasting, ensuring the best flavor and aroma in your coffee beans. With multiple roasting levels, you can experiment to see which you like best.

The Sandbox Smart roaster has a maximum capacity of 19.5 ounces, which is more than the average bag of coffee beans. So you can roast a small batch for the day, or roast an entire bag and have fresh beans all month.

There's an app that lets you adjust the parameters to your preferences, so you can set the roasting time, temperature, fan power and drum speed. Or just keep it easy and choose from the default recipes for different kinds of beans and roast levels. The app will alert you when the beans are ready, so you don't have to sit around and wait. But there is a window in front that lets you observe the beans as they roast, just in case you want to keep an eye on them.

Or offer some words of encouragement.
