Chicken. Easy to make, but hard to make well.

And if you’ve been making chicken so well that it’s been famous for 35 years, it might be time to give it the spotlight.

Welcome to J Bird, the new casual eatery from the people behind Waxman’s, who are now bringing that famous chicken to the forefront of your life where it belongs. It's open now in... well, in Ghirardelli Square. Have a look around.

You and your fellow poultry enthusiasts will approach the storefront's floor-to-ceiling windows and quickly notice all the outdoor tables covered in blue and yellow gingham tablecloths. Keep those in mind for later.

For now, head on inside and opt for either their 35-year-perfected roast chicken or their newly debuted (and just as majestic) fried chicken. From there, it’s on to hot sides like tennis racquet mac and cheese or cold sides like the kale salad that was a favorite at Waxman’s.

And since none of the above would be complete without a beer from the likes of Ballast Point or Drakes, go ahead and get one of those, too. When you're damn good and ready, head back out to those gingham tables to revel in your bounty.

Or eschew all of that and grab a picnic basket to-go. They come pre-packed with a whole chicken, two hot and two cold sides.

No, you don't have to eat it in Ghirardelli Square.
