The Cheese Gods Smile Down Upon You Today

Favorite things from childhood that stand the test of time: slap bracelets, mac and cheese and not having to make your own mac and cheese.

Minus maybe slap bracelets.

Doing its part to keep those last two alive and well is Mac’d, a new DIY mac and cheesery that’s now soft-open in the Marina and looks like this.

Yes, the popular pop-up from two San Francisco natives has found a permanent home, which may end up becoming your permanent home. You’ll walk in on some lovely afternoon, pass the orange sign telling you to “Get Mac’d” and order over by the elbow noodle smiley face. The usual.

That’s where the DIY part comes in. You’ll start with a base sauce like cheddar, French onion soup or beer and bacon fat.

Then, you’ll move on to pasta with options ranging anywhere from elbow to… cauliflower. You’ll allow it.

Next, just start mixing things in there. Bacon. Hot dogs. Corn. Mushrooms. Tri-tip. Prosciutto. Do not hold back. Do not go gentle into that good night.

And finally, top it all off with goodness like Parmesan crisps or hot Cheetos and make a pit stop at the hot sauce station. Rinse. Repeat.

We’ll also accept “take a nap.”
