A Cabin-Like Bar with Meat and Slushies

Whoever said there weren’t enough places in this town to drink spiked slushies in the shadow of a stuffed mountain goat: eat your words.

Eat your words, person.

And then go to The Lodge, a rustic cabin of a drinking establishment where you’ll do just that and also probably end up with a grilled cheese in your hand at some point, open now in Oakland. (Your slideshow and your menu.)

It’s the new bar from the team behind Bar Dogwood, Stag’s Lunchette and Darling’s Elixirs. So, a team that knows drinks. And foods. And retro Tahoe-cabin-like settings with paint-by-number forest murals and impressive taxidermy-to-patron ratios.

Come with a third date who can appreciate cozying up under a brown bear pelt with something strong, sweet and intermingled with small pellets of ice.

Settle in at the 30-foot-long redwood bar, because that’s where those slushies happen in the form of Bloody Marys and tequila daiquiris and piña coladas with fresh coconut. Savor one. Swish it around. Wonder why all beverages don’t happen like this.

And when snack cravings inevitably arise, quell them with habanero-aji wings or white-cheddar grilled cheeses with bacon chutney. Maybe a venison sausage tucked inside a puff pastry.

We see you, venison sausage.
