Okay, yes. Very good, Jake Arrieta. You pitched a no-hitter. Nice.

More importantly, though, you and your onesie-clad teammates helped bring PJs back into our civic conversation.

Good timing, because P.J. Clarke’s, that Gordon Gekko–era bastion of after-work pubbery, has just finished a seven-month rehab and now is reopen in the Gold Coast. (Here’s the slideshow.)

Maybe you missed its presence. Maybe not. Either way, it’s different now in all the right ways. Yet it’s the same in all the right ways. Let’s break it down.

THE DRINKS
Then: You wanted whiskey. Take your pick. They had a whopping three to choose from.
Now: With 28 scotch options like Glenfarclas 17-year and Scapa 16-year “The Orcadian,” your choices are more... well, more everything.

THE FOOD
Then: Lengthy comfort-food menu with steakhouse aspirations. Bottom line: pot pie was a safe bet.
Now: The steaks have been reined in. Try the BBQ ribs or one of the four burgers. Bottom line: still safe with pot pie.

WHAT YOU’RE DOING THERE ANYWAY
Then: Wondering when they were going to paint those nicotine-stained walls.
Now: Relaxing in the comfortable breeze of the open front window while admiring the retiled floors and the freshly painted walls and ceilings.

You’re also probably doing more things.
