A Rather Postmodern Surf Shop in Venice

What’s black and white and puts Art Garfunkel on surf fins?

It’s Lone Wolfs Objets d’Surf, an iconoclastic new surf shop marrying design and shredding, now open in Venice. See the slideshow.

Behind a boarded-up Lincoln door, you’ll enter this entirely black-and-white surf shop fronting a music studio. Assuming you’re here for the shop part, not an ad jingle, we’ll proceed.

You will find:

—Handmade translucent fiberglass surf fins bearing the faces of Truffaut, Serge Gainsbourg, Magritte and Art Garfunkel on them. Finally, some respect from surf fins.

—A matte black surfboard with the opening stanzas of Walt Whitman’s “Song of Myself” on it. He gets you so pumped.

—Super-warm Vissla wetsuits. You’re not doing cold.

—Their heavy black cotton duck button-up. See above.

—Cotton trunks with some sideways stretch for enhanced board straddling.

—Allen Ginsberg’s Mind Breaths. To contemplate between sets.

—A white waterproof weekend bag.

—A Hamburglar-striped stick built for speed.

That guy’s everywhere these days.
