Your Perks: 1) Smokeless fireplaces that go on a desk or hang on a wall and pair well with wine. And fall. 2) A stunning Italian corkscrew. Marvel at it. Or, you know, open a Bordeaux with it. 3) A couple grooming kits with face wash, moisturizer, aftershave and the like. Treat your face right.
Things to do for October 30, 2014
Rare Beers, Rare Bourbon and Heavy Metal
Pain is temporary, the weekend is forever.
Five Courses of Game and Scotch
Halloween Eve. Time to stock up on candy. And eat a bunch of unusual animals. Here’s Fiola, doing four courses of Scottish pheasant, wild hare, grouse and venison. Plus some black-truffle soufflé. Of course. And you’ll be drinking Virginia’s RdV wines, and 1998 scotch. Of course.
All Pappy, All Night in Glover Park
Just hang on until you’re done reading this. Tonight, Bourbon in Glover Park is pouring each of the three Pappy Van Winkle Special Reserve bottlings, plus 10 other whiskeys from the same distillery. Get them by the ounce, get them by the flight, just get them before they run out. You can freak out now.
Okay, so you missed the Foo Fighters show at the Black Cat. Make up for it (kind of) as a Misfits cover band shares time with three metal DJs, and three local bartenders mix up metal-themed cocktails. If you have a Gwar costume, now’s a good time to wear it.
Growler Fills on Capitol Hill
Growlers. No, it doesn’t describe the people you’ll run into tomorrow night. It describes what you’ll be filling at Capitol Hill’s new beer-centric shop. Expect lots of local (Charlottesville’s Three Notch’d), some less local (Greece, Cyprus) and multiple taps to fill your growlers.
An Indie Bookstore Lands in Petworth
Alcohol has fueled some of the greatest authors. May be fitting, then, that the guy behind bars like Room 11 and Petworth Citizen is opening a bookstore. Expect a focus on literary fiction, graphic novels and local authors. Maybe even a cocktail book or two.
