Your Perks: 1) The same aviators worn by the Italian Air Force aerobatics team. Eye-catching. 2) More tank tops than we know what to do with. Seriously. Help. 3) One of these very rare, very vintage Omega watches. They move fast, if you can imagine.
Things to do for August 06, 2015
Tiki Drinks, Chorizo Burritos and Marshmallow Fluff Drinks
Sometimes your worst weekend is your best weekend.
The City of Richmond Is on Sale
Not since Grant left town have there been deals like this out of Richmond. First up, Ledbury is knocking up to 60% off some fine summer plaids and ginghams. Meanwhile, at Need Supply you can take an extra 30% off cotton blazers, swim trunks and red boat shoes. It won’t be red-boat-shoe season forever.
10 New Tiki Drinks for August
If you’re not near a beach by now, then you’ve probably already mentally checked out anyway. Here to ensure you don’t check back in: a slate of 10 August-only tiki cocktails at McClellan’s Retreat—some of them with nontraditional tiki ingredients like bourbon, Campari and beer. The only time beer is nontraditional.
A New Breakfast Option in Dupont
Rule of thumb: a prosciutto-and-pecorino breakfast sandwich at a nostalgic-looking hideaway > a granola bar at your desk. So schedule a morning “meeting” at the Riggsby, now turning out breakfast every day like vanilla-soaked french toast, chorizo burritos and banana-and-hazelnut pancakes. Coffee, too.
You could have a crab feast. Or you could have a crab feast in the Navy football stadium with thousands of people. Yes, do that. Expect unlimited crabs, draft beer, BBQ, corn, hot dogs and watermelon sliced and served by local Watermelon Queens. Which is just like Miss America. Kind of.
The Chesapeake Room Returns
After a few weeks’ refresh, the Chesapeake Room is back open on Barracks Row, and they’ve doubled down on the Southernness. You’ll now find catfish, hominy gratin with cheese curds and Fritos, and drinks like a pisco sour with passion fruit and marshmallow fluff. Southerners love their fluff.
