Things to do for October 08, 2014

The Weekender

VHS Tapes, Fire Pits and Bottomless Brunches

The weekend looks forward to hockey season.

THE PATIO POSTSEASON

A Fire Pit with Your Name on It

Turns out patios have postseasons, too. The ones where you reserve your own fire pit in advance, they give you a faux-fur blanket and you tuck into lobster lasagna and hot buttered rum. For the rest of the month, that’s what’s happening at Bourbon Steak. It’s like claiming home patio advantage.

Thursday
A Bigger, Boozier Thai X-ing
X MARKS THE SPOT

A Bigger, Boozier Thai X-ing

Thai X-ing then: A prix fixe menu in the basement of a Florida Avenue row house.
Thai X-ing now: Still that, but in a bigger dining room across from 9:30 Club. Bonus tip: they have a full bar here. Or bring your own wine and they’ll uncork it for five bucks.

Halloween Specials: VHS Edition
BE KIND REWIND

Halloween Specials: VHS Edition

You probably didn’t save everything you ever recorded on VHS. But some people did. And now here comes some other people who want to screen said VHS tapes. This week, it’s Halloween TV specials, complete with vintage commercials, plus some Ghostbusters and Freddy Krueger footage.

Friday
First Birds. And Now, Beer.
CHARMED

First Birds. And Now, Beer.

Good reasons to go to Baltimore:
1. A Beltway series.
2. Baltimore Beer Week. Think: cask ale festivals, tap takeovers, oyster nights and a DC versus Baltimore beer battle. Maybe we can beat them at that.

Monday
Monday = A Bonus Brunch Day
BRUNCHING

Monday = A Bonus Brunch Day

You’ve been working hard. Actually, we have no idea if that’s true. We do know you’re probably looking forward to a three-day weekend. Here’s another reason: all of Richard Sandoval’s places (El Centro, Masa 14, Toro Toro, etc.) are extending their bottomless brunches. It’s what Columbus would have wanted.
