Bar on 9th Street inspirer? Yep, bar on 9th Street inspirer.

Grab a cane and a bowler hat for Chaplin, a new bar from the Wilder brothers (Red Light) that’ll have you doing dumpling shooters on a huge patio and thinking about silent movies, opening tomorrow in Shaw.

Basically, this is the bar equivalent of The Kid. Or Modern Times. Or one of those Chaplin pictures from the ’20s and ’30s. Gray walls, black bar, a piano and a mural with Chaplin’s face. So yeah, not exactly the place to watch the World Cup semis.

But probably a place to bring a date. And definitely a place to order some Drunken Masters: dumplings served shooter-style in stuff like Japanese whiskey and Pimm’s Cups. Another option: ramen noodles with a soft-boiled egg cracked tableside and dropped into your bowl. That sounds nice.

Oh, and starting in a couple of weeks, there’ll be a massive patio. This is where you’ll sip cocktails like the Laughing Gas, a mix of gin with lemon-blackberry soda carbonated with helium.

BYO balloons.
