Things to do for May 01, 2014
Bacon Tacos, BBQ and a Whiskey Trolley
The weekend just saw Russell Crowe float by.
Bourbon Steak’s Got a Whiskey Cart
Next time you order a whiskey at Bourbon Steak, it might have its own set of wheels. They’ve just rolled out a whiskey trolley to get your hooch to your table that much faster, and it’s loaded with 12 whiskeys, Japanese crystal glasses and hand-cut ice. No word on whether it’s subject to NTSB regulations.
200 Presidential Photos at the W
Seems like this should be part of your Correspondents’ Dinner pregame: perusing 200 official White House photos from 1900 to the present, on exhibit in the W’s lobby, from Hoover going fishing to Ron and Nancy stepping out at an inaugural ball. But probably not your selfie at the northwest gate.
Hill Country’s Backyard BBQ Returns
Starting tonight, Hill Country is firing up the smokers (and live music) again on the Building Museum’s lawn. So maybe give it a day to dry out, then show up for brisket sandwiches, cornbread and spiked Arnold Palmers. BYO blanket.
This weekend, tell everyone you’re taking Harper’s spot in the outfield. Even if it’s just to sit down and watch opera. The Washington National Opera is doing its simulcast thing again, this time with The Magic Flute. You’ll just do your normal sausage-and-beer Nats Park thing.
Behold the All-Pork Taco
We’re not sure if this is what they’ll be eating in Mexico on Cinco de Mayo, but... well, no need to be a purist. El Rey is doing a one-day-only taco with pork loin, al pastor, carnitas and pork mayo, inside a taco shell made out of bacon. Probably doesn’t need salt.
