Lord of the Fly

An Airstream Turned Barber Shop

“Just a little off the top, please.”

“Keep it short around the ears.”

“How many miles to the gallon does this barbershop get on the highway?”

You know, typical haircut banter...

Lather, rinse and repeat for Fly Barbershop, a mobile grooming outfit that’s operating from inside a vintage trailer, taking appointments now and rolling out next Saturday.

Typically, when you see a 29-foot Airstream from the late ’60s, it’s not equipped with three vintage barbershop chairs, black-and-white mosaic tile walls and handsome wood floors. So when it is, you take notice.

Now the next time you need a quick trim—say, last minute before that office holiday party—hop on their Facebook page to see where they’re parked. It could be outside the Equinox on Oak Lawn, the CrossFit on the Katy Trail or maybe Alton Lane. Could be elsewhere. Lots of curbs in Dallas.

Then, once inside, you’ll take a seat in one of those white leather chairs where standard barbershop stuff like hot-towel applications and straight-razor shaves will take place. So come armed with good small-talk topics.

This weather seems a good bet.
