Things to do for September 26, 2013
Oktoberfest, Caviar and a Roomful of Wine
The weekend will have what you’re having. But with more butter.
A Steakhouse Gets a Bonus Bar
Yeah, we know. J&G in the W hotel already had a bar. But after a two-month renovation, they’ve got another—a small, after-work special on the lobby level with cucumber martinis and a new bar-bites menu with steak tartare, Kobe dogs and caviar. Which should totally go on your dog.
Rioting. Frowned on in some corners. But perfectly all right when there’re 200 wines involved. Yup, the traveling circus that is Wine Riot is back, this time at the Sphinx Club downtown. Expect a champagne bar, DJs and Luke’s Lobster. Pro tip: best to stop after 100 wines.
Bottle Service, Meet Cocktails
Bottle service. It has its place. But when it’s just two of you rolling in, a simple cocktail may be more in order. Enter the Huxley’s new cocktail list, with options like the Smoked & Dirty (vodka, scotch rinse, olive juice, black pepper). Which sometimes describes your nights as well.
Two Floors of Oktoberfest Sausages
Next year at this time, you’re going to Germany. Promise yourself. But for now, you’ll head to 1905 on Saturday, where they’re setting up five local-beer-and-brat stations in the dining room and on the roof deck. You’ve got four hours. So hang around for seconds. Or fourths.
Hump Day = Gratis Tequila
Might as well reward yourself when you’ve made it through three-fifths of a workweek. And free tequila is as good a way as any. El Centro’s new Georgetown location is hosting vertical tastings of some rare tequilas all fall at its second-floor bar. Yeah, you should order tacos, too.
