A Handsome Irish Gastropub in North Center

If our sources are correct—and we believe that they are—you are ready for some football.

That’s great news. Because by this weekend, you’re going to have something that goes really well with some football...

Namely, this place: Monty Gaels, a big, broad-shouldered Irishman of a corner gastropub, soft-opening as early as tomorrow in North Center.

This is run by the Vaughan group (Vaughan’s, Corcoran’s, Mystic Celt), so they know a thing or two about that whole “you’re drinking in Dublin” vibe. This has all the other hallmarks of Irish pub-dom, too: a chalkboard listing some 20 beer options (Half Acre, Revolution) and a ring of TVs playing sports, though the sound will only be on for Bears games.

So... you’ll come in this weekend. Grab a bar stool. Start slurping oysters with a hard-cider mignonette and munching on chicken-skin popcorn. Watch a few touchdowns. High-five someone.

Or swing by next week with a date. Take a seat on the patio. Order up old favorites with new twists. They’ve got fish-and-chips modernized with skate wing and a crispy vodka batter. And a BLT with fig jam, green tomatoes and jowl bacon.

Pork cheek = romance.
