Things to do for July 03, 2013
Donut Ice Cream, Bacon Kraut and All Kinds of Pie
My, what a big weekend you have.
Donut Ice Cream. It’s Here.
This week’s exhibit in the fall of Western civilization: the new Shake Shack next to the Spy Museum is blending donuts into frozen custard. An Astro coconut donut, to be specific, with strawberry jam and rainbow sprinkles. Because if it didn’t have sprinkles, you’d ask for them.
A Grill-and-Beer Rooftop Party
This holiday, you need a rooftop and you need beer. 1905 has both. Your admission gets you a protein (wings, smoked ribs) from the grill, plus two sides (cornbread, bacon kraut). The guys from 3 Stars Brewing will be on hand to supply the beer. Feel free to salute.
A Month of Pies at Pearl Dive
By Friday, you’ll be brimming with patriotism. And nothing’s more American than pie. All month, Pearl Dive is dealing in whole pies to go, like key lime pie, peanut-butter-black-bottom pie and Kentucky Derby pie with chocolate chips, walnuts and bourbon. Yes, it still needs whipped cream.
Two Months of ’80s Flicks at AFI
You probably haven’t seen Risky Business on the big screen. Or A Fish Called Wanda. Or Trading Places. Well, now’s your chance, as AFI kicks off a two-month ’80s film fest this Saturday with Videodrome. Which you might not have seen anywhere.
A Pop-Up Ice Cream Cart
Come next week, a longer lunch may be in order. Because you may have to work in a stroll to the Fairmont, whose restaurant is popping up an ice cream cart with freeze pops, Rice Krispies ice cream sandwiches and ice cream cupcakes. And thus, you’ve found the upside to the heat.
