America’s Cup Sports Bar

Cup and Away

This Shipwrecked Boat Is Now a Bar

You know that old saying about life and lemons.

Well, we have a new one.

It goes: “When life gives you a shipwrecked boat, you make a behemoth waterfront bar.”

Trim a jib or something for America’s Cup Sports Bar, a once-sunken AC72 catamaran that’s been gloriously repurposed into the world’s largest pop-up bar, opening July 4 and closing forever after the final America’s Cup race.

Back in October, Team Oracle’s boat crashed. At the time, it was bad. But now, it’s good. Because Team Oracle’s boat is a bar now. A bar with Adirondack chairs and picnic tables and tequila and 80-inch TVs for Cup watching. Thanks, recycling.

You’ll enter near the security gate next to Pier 23, walk toward the water and look for a giant warehouse structure. That’s your spot. That’s where this thing is.

Pull up a white leather chair and look out onto the bay through the massive open garage doors. You’ve got a Hog & Rocks bartender at your disposal. He’ll make you Negronis and Pimm’s Cups. It’ll be great.

Ah, and brunch. They’ll have that, too. Sliders. Omelets. Cheese boards.

It’s not an America’s Cup–themed pop-up bar until the cheese boards show up.
