A Record Shop Turned Wine Bar in the Mission

There’s not a lot of downside when it comes to wine.

It’s rich in antioxidants. Goes great with cheese. Is made of alcohol.

And turns out, it’s also great for building wine bars around.

Like this one called 20 Spot, a new vino dispensary from the Bacchus Wine Bar guy, built on the bones of an old record store and opening Friday in the heart of the Mission.

About that Bacchus fellow. Maybe you’ve heard of him. His name is Bodhi Freedom. His name is also one of the most fantastical names in the history of names. But that doesn’t have much to do with the fact that he’s about to hand you a list with 100 bottles of old-world French, Italian and German wines on it. It’s more of a happy coincidence, really.

So. Friday. Show up then. Bring a date who likes vintage Eames rocking chairs, leather sofas from the ’60s and L-shaped bars made out of eucalyptus wood. And speaking of being incredibly specific, go ahead and ask about that ’03 Meursault 1er Cru Caillerets from the owner’s cellar. Then ask about having someone pour that in a glass for you.

And since one cannot live on wine alone (or so the story goes), you’ll also be privy to edible things like oysters, rabbit pâté and deviled duck eggs with bacon.

Duck eggs are the new egg-eggs.
