Froyo and Waffles in Davis Square

The post-dinner date spot.

Like a well-crafted mix album, it requires subtlety. Nuance. Balance.

That, and the occasional Belgian waffle. That you make.

And we just found where to do it in Somerville.

Introducing iYO Cafe, Davis Square’s new vintage-mirrored charmer of a spot for all manner of frozen yogurt, waffles and killer coffee, now open for all your date-closing needs.

Brought to you by an architect and a schoolteacher who decided to strip an old convenience store down to its original exposed-brick walls, turn-of-the-century floors and 14-foot pressed-tin ceiling, this is where you’ll go when you want a large cup of self-serve froyo and toppings (mmm... Butterfinger).

But you can also use it as a stop-and-email joint during the day, when you’ll want to down a cup of insanely strong small-batch coffee by Massachusetts’s own Barrington Roasters near the windows.

Either way, you’ll take advantage of the freedom that comes with doing things yourself. Like pouring one of the 12 flavors of frozen yogurt (we’re fans of red velvet cake mixed with Tahitian vanilla). Or maybe just working the self-serve Belgian waffle machines for a light refreshment after a date around the corner.

Any date that ends with Belgian waffles is a good one.
