Things to do for July 26, 2012
Here’s the Opening Ceremony for Your Weekend
The weekend carries its own torch.
Guys and Girls. Playing Football.
It’s time to live out your intramural glory days yet again by assembling a team of ringers for Zog Sports’ annual co-ed, eight-on-eight touch tourney. Besides, a Gatorade shower always feels better in the dead of August.
Fancy Pretzels and Cheap Beer at Againn
For the opening ceremonies, might as well keep things appropriately British. Fortunately, this downtown pub is rolling out new happy hour specials like oyster shooters and Guinness-soaked pretzels for four bucks, $3.50 drafts and $3 off all scotches. Which is not a banned substance yet.
Mingling with Redskins Cheerleaders
Regrettably, you had a scheduling conflict when the ’Skins cheerleaders were shooting their calendar in Aruba. Make up for it when the calendar is unveiled Friday, along with a few performances and fashion shows. No, you should not wear your football helmet.
Your New Stop for Grilled Meatballs
Cava Mezze Grill, the build-your-own-gyro spot that’s been doing its thing in the burbs, has finally touched down in Columbia Heights. You’ll be able to fuel up on lamb, grilled meatballs, tzatziki and falafel, all packed into a pita. Be warned: the dangers of overfilled pita are real. Very real.
New DC Beers Debut at ChurchKey
The Bluejacket brewery—from the folks behind ChurchKey—won’t start brewing in town until next year. But next week, you can still tip back five of their beers that they’ve already brewed elsewhere, like the summery Sidewalk Saison. Just don’t walk down the sidewalk with it.
