Things to do for December 22, 2011
Ham Delivery, Bottomless Bellinis and a Baker's Dozen Xmas Drafts
The weekend never gets stuck in the chimney.
Ordering Your Holiday Meats
Your needs this week are few, but they are specific: pounds of protein, preferably briny and smoky. Enter Hill Country, prepping holiday hams and briskets by the pound along with sides like baked beans with burnt ends and sweet-potato-bourbon mash, for pickup or delivery. You didn’t want to go out anyway.
A Murderers’ Row of Holiday Ales
And yet... you just never feel quite festive enough until you’ve sampled your way through every American and Belgian Christmas draft you can get your hands on. Like the 13 now on tap at Paradiso Dupont... until they run out. Better wrap yourself in tinsel just in case.
Playing Bocce with the Big Boys
Bocce. We know. You’ve been there; you’ve dominated. So it’s time to move to the big leagues. Or at least the bar with the nice bocce court. For its winter season, DC Bocce is rolling its balls at Black Jack. It’s time to start practicing. Which means the kitchen floor just got another use.
Drunken Spelling Bee at R&R Hotel
The first thing you should know about Spelling Buzz: $6 gets you a PBR and a shot of “crap” whiskey. The second thing: when you take the podium, drink in hand, you’ll need to recall spellings of elementary school words, along with dirty words. And probably dirty elementary school words. Like “barnyard.”
Boxing Day Bellinis at Urbana
Come Monday, you’ll still be in the giving mood. Also: the receiving mood. So bring in a new toy for Urbana’s toy drive and get gratis, bottomless Bellinis throughout brunch. Just the thing to wash down the Fudge Brownie Pancakes. Which is what you left out for Santa.
