Knock knock.

Who’s there?

You know what, never mind. Forget we asked.

Let’s leave comedy to the professionals...

Please welcome to the stage UCB East, a plush 100-seat improv theater and (currently) BYO bar that’s serving as the palatial East Village ha-ha hut for the fabled sketch comedy maestros from the Upright Citizens Brigade, now open.

Apparently, laughter is the best medicine. Which means the next time you’re feeling: sick, nauseous, faint, feverish, bored on a Wednesday or like you might have the chicken pox, you’ll come here—to UCB’s significantly roomier/slightly more convenient breeding ground for tomorrow’s SNL cast members (Amy Poehler, Horatio Sanz) and sitcom stars (Amy Poehler).

Unlike your standard, dime-a-dozen derelict basement comedy clubs, this particular one used to be an indie movie house. So there’s vintage film posters, a vacant concession stand and extra-comfortable theater bucket seats.

Both before and after the nightly shows, you’ll want to swing around backstage and spend some quality time in the Hot Chicks Room. Unfortunately, it’s not as salacious as it sounds. Fortunately, it is in fact a bar. One that for the time being you’ll supply with your own six-packs and delivery pizzas.

Yes, apparently you have to do everything around here.
