Bacardi at the Park

Home Rum Derby

The New Barbecue and Rum Bar at the Cell

Tomorrow, as you know, is the Sox home opener. Ironically, new seasons make you nostalgic for old ones.

Also, nostalgic for rum.

Bringing us full circle: Bacardi at the Park, a new rum-and-’cue palace on deck for its 5am debut tomorrow at US Cellular Field. But just roll in whenever the desire for Smoked Brisket Nachos hits you.

Just across from the Cell, think of this as what Comiskey Park would have looked like as a sports bar and/or a rib joint: brick-and-girder interior, a patio steps away from that old Comiskey home plate shrine and all the Sox memorabilia you expect. Very little disco.

The eponymous rum purveyor is taking care of your mai tais and mojitos (you’ll also find a decent selection of brew), but the Gibsons steakhouse folks helm the place. They’ve outfitted the kitchen with a smoker capable of smoking 900 pounds of pork an hour. So try to keep up.

Show up a couple hours before home games (game tickets not required) and start with Smokehouse Maple Chicken Wings, basically like barbecue-flavored meat candy, or smoked corn on the cob with barbecue butter. Soon, you’ll be tearing into a prime burger—the same one served at Gibsons—while watching the game on big flat-screens.

Assuming you can take your eyes off the burger.
