A British Carving Station in Nolita

UD - Oxley’s CarveryIn certain circles of Nolita, the British never lost the war.

Soccer is football. Powdered wig mania is just now reaching its peak.

And a beef roast au jus is carved up in the name of the Queen.

Welcome to Oxley’s Carvery, a traditional English sandwich shop that’s hand hacking farm-fresh roasts, commissioning custom-blended sausages and staunchly supporting Sunday Yorkshire pudding, now open on Mott Street.

Think of this like Torrisi with a British accent. Waiting to take your order: two bowler-hat-clad women armed with an unquantifiable knowledge of roasts and the skill set to gently walk you through a life (or lunch) altering flank steak decision.

At your command, a carving chef will be summoned from the kitchen. Knife in hand, he’ll begin slicing, dressing and stacking your pork shoulder with cracklings or pepper turkey with Thanksgiving trimmings onto a flour-dusted roll that’s been structurally approved for a sandwich of this magnitude.

And in the coming weeks, they’ll let you start ordering for delivery and creating your own personal sausage links that’ll be sourced out to an uptown German butcher.

Good to see the Treaty of Versailles still throwing its weight around.
