The Month Ahead

Your Guide to September

You’ve got a big month ahead of you. Actually, at 30 days, it’s an average-sized month. Still, there’s a lot to pack in...

UD - The Biggest Beer Garden in the World
SEP 10-19

The Biggest Beer Garden in the World

You like to consider yourself somewhat of a professional when it comes to beer. In fact, your friends call you Mr. Oktoberfest. And much like any superstar athlete, you need to warm up before the season. Use the Denver Beer Fest, home to the world’s largest beer garden, as spring training. But, you know, in the fall.

UD - International Chocolate Day
SEP 13

International Chocolate Day

Yes, it’s almost here: that day where people of every nation and creed unite and hold hands, and sing songs about chocolate, chocolate-related paraphernalia and Darryl “Chocolate Thunder” Dawkins. Okay, maybe not, but this is as good an excuse as any to fill a hot tub with the stuff. Dawkins would’ve wanted it this way.

UD - Racing at the Bonneville Salt Flats
SEP 15-18

Racing at the Bonneville Salt Flats

Call it a hunch, but you’ve long suspected that when it’s really on the line, you could race a motorized bar stool across some salt flats faster than anyone. And soon, you’ll have your chance to prove it. Once a year, the Utah Salt Flats Racing Association puts on a crazy drag race between old VW vans, go-karts and, if you insist, regular old race cars. It may be the only place on earth where you can catch a drag race and garnish a margarita simultaneously.

UD - Bill Murray Turns 60
SEP 21

Bill Murray Turns 60

We have just one pretty good guess about what Bill Murray will be doing on his birthday: jumping ship in Hong Kong on his way over to Tibet for a round of 18 with the Twelfth Son of the Lama. And here’s one suggestion on how you should celebrate it: putting on a red cap and hunting down some jaguar sharks.

UD - Telluride Photo Festival
SEP 20-26

Telluride Photo Festival

A film festival. At a ski resort. It’s an idea so crazy, it just might work—which is why you make a point of paying Redford a visit in Sundance every January. Oh, and its warmer-weather Colorado cousin too, in Telluride. And because what works for the moving image might just work for the still one, they’re starting a new photo festival this year. The phrase “three-picture deal” somehow has less significance.
