Sleeping in a Montana tent could mean you're roughing it on the frontier.

But then you look around and notice the king size bed, private bathroom and food you didn't have to catch or cook, and you start to realize this isn't the typical camping setup.

Because this is Under Canvas North Yellowstone Paradise Valley, the newest property from Under Canvas, the outdoor hospitality brand that has luxury campsites in some of the country's most picturesque destinations.

Located on 50 acres of ranch land near the north entrance of Yellowstone National Park, it's sporting 50 safari-style tents, each fully furnished with king beds, fine linens, wood burning stoves, private decks and ensuite bathrooms — yes, that includes a hot shower. Tents range in features and size and can accommodate between two and six guests. The Stargazer Tent has a viewing window above the bed, so you can point out constellations as you fall asleep. And the River Suite Tent is actually two tents adjoined by a private deck, with its own private fire pit and an outdoor area, so groups can congregate comfortably.

Common areas include an airy lobby tent and Embers, the cafe-style dining concept where guests can get seasonal salads, charcuterie, locally-caught trout, smoked meats and sides, plus beer, wine and cocktails. There are also grab-and-go options available to take out on a hike or other adventures. At the end of the night, gather around the fire for complimentary s’mores.

The Paradise Valley location means easy access to the national park and all its canyons, alpine rivers, lush forests, hot springs and gushing geysers. So you'll want to spend lots of time outside. There's onsite programming like yoga and live music, plus off-site adventures including horseback riding, guided hiking tours, fly-fishing and white-water rafting that the property can arrange for you.

Just keep your head on a swivel, because the park is home to hundreds of animal species, including bears, wolves, bison, elk and antelope. And safari tents can look mighty cozy to a bear.
