The year is almost up.

Which means we get to make grand pronouncements like this:

Here's the best thing to happen to Robertson Boulevard in 2017.

It's called Bibo Ergo Sum, a beyond-beautiful new cocktail bar opening tonight in Robertson Plaza, right below Beverly, from a native son of the Arclight family.

Past the alluringly lacquered auburn door, you'll find an eggshell-toned chamber of curvy fixtures, bewildering materials and sumptuous furniture, all custom-made. Things may feel both vaguely vintage and somehow futuristic, yet wholly European, as if Stanley Kubrick created a place for your nightcaps. Either way, it's enchanting as hell. And your dates will agree.

Find a seat at the semi-circle of a central bar. Proprietors LLC (Normandie Club, the Walker Inn) will handle your drinks. We could end right here and you'd want to go. But then we couldn't tell you that some of these drinks merge from dinosaur egg tap handles. And now we can live happily.

The menu is inspired by Christopher Nolan's movie about magic, broken down into three increasingly complex parts: the pledge, the turn and the prestige. You might opt for a simple margarita riff with French curaçao, cinnamon and dehydrated orange salt (the Throw Some C's).

Or something stranger, like the High Note with toasted-sesame tequila, coconut milk, pandan, pineapple, lime and chili mezcal.

Or something stranger.
