Coffee: 100% socially acceptable with your breakfast.

Rum: considerably less so.

Well, in some circles...

So the solution: Nighthawk: Breakfast Bar, a hopping place in Hollywood that opens at 8pm to serve you breakfast foods into the witching hours. That means you can have sweet potato pancakes, benedict fries and candied bacon with some cocktails, just how God intended.

Speaking of, here’s their recipe combining two very enjoyable parts of a balanced breakfast: Vietnamese iced coffee and rum. Yes, the two kindred spirits, together at last. Even if their parents never approved of the union.

Anyway, they’re calling it... Vietnamese Iced Coffee. Seems reasonable.

We’d have been tempted to go with “Good Morning, Vietnam,” but maybe that’s just us.

Vietnamese Iced Coffee

3 oz cold dark French roast coffee
1.5 oz rum blend (2 parts Demerara rum to 1 part Smith & Cross)
1 oz condensed milk.

Shake all ingredients together and pour over ice. Add cinnamon stick and a sprinkle of cinnamon as garnish.
