The Future of Extended-Stay Hotels Looks Pretty Damn Good

No offense to Airbnb or dreary corporate apartments, but sometimes when you’re staying somewhere for an extended period of time, you could do with a few hotel amenities. Housekeepers. Front desk staff. Concierge. Swanky gym at your disposal.

And no offense to boutique hotels, but sometimes you want more of the comforts of home. Washer and dryer. Full kitchen. Your trusty dog by your side.

So you can probably guess where this is going...

That’s right. Philadelphia.

That’s because Roost Rittenhouse is a new luxury apartment hotel open in Philly by the Roost people (who also own a Roost in midtown Philadelphia). They’re staking out a solid middle ground between the comforts of home and the niceties of hotel staying. We’re hoping this is the end of soulless corporate housing.

First, just take a look around this joint. You’ve got 27 fully furnished, pet-friendly apartments—ranging from studio to two bedroom—in a fully restored historic building overlooking Rittenhouse Square. Each is stocked with all the essentials: Apple TV and giant flat-screens, Bosch appliances, their own coffee programs and live plants that someone else waters for you.

But when you’re in the mood for pampering, you’ve got a weekly housekeeper. You’ve got access to a bike-sharing program. Access to the Sporting Club at the Bellevue as your personal gym with swimming pool and boxing ring.

In case your idea of pampering is punching someone in the face.
